Dental Hygiene and Whitening in Batumi

As we age, teeth often lose their natural color, enamel becomes thin and sensitive, plaque builds up, and tartar forms. All of this can lead to tooth decay and gum disease.
It’s especially important to visit a professional hygienist during orthodontic treatment, as proper hygiene is difficult to maintain with braces. Patients with braces — both children and adults — should undergo professional cleaning every 3 months.

The body may lack essential minerals that cannot be fully replenished through diet or supplements. Only a specialized remineralization procedure (remin therapy) can restore lost minerals and prevent further tooth damage.

Procedure of professional oral hygiene:

If there is heavy plaque or tartar, teeth are first cleaned with an ultrasonic scaler. At My Dent, we use the gentle Japanese NSC scaler, which does not cause pain or damage enamel.
Next comes Air Flow cleaning — a modern alternative to mechanical brushing. It uses a stream of water and fine powder (we use KaVo PROPHYflex glycine) to gently clean teeth without harming gums or enamel.
The procedure lasts about 30 minutes. Afterward, a fluoride gel is applied to strengthen and protect the enamel.
This method restores the teeth’s natural shade — slightly yellowish or grayish. It is not a whitening procedure but a deep cleaning. For a whiter smile, laser whitening is recommended after hygiene.
After the procedure, avoid coffee, tea, colored foods, and smoking for at least 3 hours. Do not eat, drink, or rinse your mouth for 30 minutes, and avoid colored foods for 12 hours.
Professional hygiene is essential before any dental treatment, including implants, prosthetics, and whitening. It’s a key step toward a healthy, beautiful smile!
